Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan’s Message Remains More Relevant Than Ever

Image
As intolerance and violence try to strike deeper roots in Indian society, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan is more relevant than ever. Born on 6 February 1890 in the Northwest border city of Utmanzai located in present-day Pakistan, Khan’s father was a Pathan tribal chief. At an early age, Khan was inclined towards activism. He sought to fight poverty and spread education. He realised quickly that the British Raj treats their community as second-class. Later, he came to be known as Frontier Gandhi . The important phase of his life as a political activist began in 1919 when he protested the Rowlatt Act . It was at this time that he met Gandhi. In the following year, Khan also joined the Khilafat movement , a campaign launched by the Muslims of India to influence the British government not to abolish the Ottoman Caliphate. In 1921, Khan was made president of the district Khilafat committee in his native North-West Frontier Province. He played a prominent role in the formation of ...

My travel diary 2020_COVID19

Image
I traveled on 21st December, first time after March 2020, when everything had become stand still, I was traveling by train to my native village to meet my dears and near.  When I reached to Anand Vihar train station, the station was almost empty, I had luggage , so I took help from coolie, his name was Suresh ( name changed) to put my things on the train, my train was late, so I interacted with Suresh about COVID19 and lock down , and challenges to cover expenses.  I was surprised to know, there were no any monetary support to those peoples, some of the were getting rations. They were allowed to go and work on the other stations, where trains were running. I asked about their Union and what they are doing for these workers ? I didn't get any satisfactory answers from Suresh. I was imaging, how difficult circumstances for people like Suresh to live a dignified like, where one needs not only food and shelter but many more make life to run. My train came Suresh arranged m...

My tribute to Mahatma Gandhi in the amidst of Farmers protest

Image
My humble tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary, he was assassinated by Nathuram Godse on 30th January 1948. Today world has grappled with COVID19 . The Inequalities and unequal society is more visible than ever, even government of our time failed to protect citizen jobs, dignity and health. The uncertain or unplanned   lock down didn't care for poor, marginalized community. Thousands of people were just unable to manage their food and other things which were necessary, like milk for children, medicine for old/ sick people, women were not able to get Sanitary Pad/Napkins because those people had finished their savings in the first few weeks and there were no financial support from anywhere . Why I am saying all those things?   when I am remembering Gandhi because, how can I give tribute to this man without remembering the last person of ladder? Things become more difficult, when people begin discriminated based on their religion, when COVID19 cases were ...

The National Press Day and quality in Indian Media

Image
Today, we are celebrating the National Press Day, to commemorate the establishment of the Press council of India, which was formed in 1966, the fundamental work of the Council to check the quality of the reportage being provided by the Indian Press. This is not secret, how Indian media reporting as far as qualities are concerned, specially by the electronic media. I don’t have any idea, what all has been done by the Press council of India to check the quality of reporting   Freedom of expression is fundamental right as stated in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Globally , those of who have to work for press are facing difficulties, like working under extreme pressure of authorities and influences of corporate-driven media houses. People from the press have been incarcerated on the false cases, facing torture/abduction and in the many cases in India or elsewhere they have been killed for expressing the truth. In the 2020 World Press Freedom Index , India ...

Why I Believe Birsa Munda Remains Relevant For Indigenous Identity Around The World(15 November 1875 – 9 June 1900)

Image
Birsa Munda was an indigenous leader and a folk hero, belonging to the Munda tribe who was behind the Millenarian movement that arose in Jharkhand during the British Raj. This made him an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement. Birsa Munda is named with great respect as one of the freedom fighters in the Indian struggle for independence against British colonialism. His achievements in the freedom struggle became even greater considering he accomplished this before he turned 25. Birsa’s devotion to his people was such that he was almost revered as God by his followers. By the time he was in his 20s, his activities in present-day Jharkhand had already begun to worry the British establishment to a considerable extent. He was finally caught by the British on February 3, 1900, when he was only 25 years old. He died soon afterwards under mysterious circumstances on June 9, 1900, at Ranchi Jail. Indigenous people from the rest of Asia or Africa hav...

Jawaharlal Nehru : what i know about you?

Image
Today we are remembering Pt. Nehru on his Birth anniversary, But I am recalling his historical speech, when he shared his emotional outburst after Gandhi's brutal killing in the day light in Delhi, "The Light Has Gone Out of Our Lives". Yes Pt. Ji, that was beginning for the losing the lights or wisdom from our life in India. The light is still fading the remaining brightness, on which people like you tried to build our country.   You preferred scientific temper and questioning on everything , you tried to give us new path in the world through NAM. You tried to give different kind of leadership to the world or tried to build solidarity with the same kind of leaders/ countered who did not want to follow the either one of the power (USA/USSR). Instead build alternative voice . Even, I am big fan for your understating of the economic development, to choose between the hard core capitalism and socialism. Your idea to go as mixed to take our strength of economy as well a...

Bihar Election 2020: Tejaswi Yadav is Winning the Battle?

Image
In the midst of COVID 19 Pandemic, the first phase of voting completed on 28 th October, two phases of election will be on 3 rd November and 7 th November respectively. The counting of vote will be on 10 th November 2020. Election in any democratic society should have been normal act, to elect their representatives for leading governance at state or any local system of governance, where the things should be for betterment of the people and their requirement for leading dignified life. But, for some times, in our country elections are becoming instruments to encroach the inappropriate power, even in some cases in the recent times, the party or alliance, who secured the majority but with the many new methods has been discovered in our country to toppled the government. It's important to see the election campaign by the NDA camps, they don't have confidence or issues to talk with voters, even they have failed to share their work of state government as well as central gov...
