Why I Believe Birsa Munda Remains Relevant For Indigenous Identity Around The World(15 November 1875 – 9 June 1900)

Image
Birsa Munda was an indigenous leader and a folk hero, belonging to the Munda tribe who was behind the Millenarian movement that arose in Jharkhand during the British Raj. This made him an important figure in the history of the Indian independence movement. Birsa Munda is named with great respect as one of the freedom fighters in the Indian struggle for independence against British colonialism. His achievements in the freedom struggle became even greater considering he accomplished this before he turned 25. Birsa’s devotion to his people was such that he was almost revered as God by his followers. By the time he was in his 20s, his activities in present-day Jharkhand had already begun to worry the British establishment to a considerable extent. He was finally caught by the British on February 3, 1900, when he was only 25 years old. He died soon afterwards under mysterious circumstances on June 9, 1900, at Ranchi Jail. Indigenous people from the rest of Asia or Africa hav...

Lose of income and livelihood : Storis of the common people

Today I went out first time after lock down being announced in Delhi, in between I explored the few things, which were totally different in comparison of normal time. These are really unprecedented timefor most of the people, but persons of margin are facing double-edged difficulties, one due to th infection of COVID19 and second loses of job/ income. First interaction with cab driver, transport sector is one of the hardest hit by the COVID19’s lockdown in India or elsewhere in the world. In India, this is purely informal sector in India, there are hardly any security in this sector, whether you are employed with transport company or self-employed. Even though Delhi government was tried to help to the motor drivers, who is in the business of transport in Delhi, but there are not data to substantiate this initiative as a helpful, as far my interactions with those people, hardly any one of them got the monetary assistance. I also meet one Coconut water seller, he was very upset wit...

Government for last 15 years in the name of reforms and governance : Now blaming predecssor in Bihar

Image
The second in command of the Bihar government put the onus of the bad health facilities in the state to their predecessor, when things are getting worse, people are not able to even receive the oxygen support, this is not in one case in the state, where things are in the bad shape instead everywhere is in discouraging health infrastructure. Its look like, health system in the Bihar itself required grater treatment. The present government has been ruling the state almost for the last 15 years, there entire campaign was based on the reforms and governance in the Bihar. These current ruling elite failed on the both fronts. I don’t have to explain in the greater way, because you have the evidence with the image in the immediate past and the contemporary time. For the reforms, you have to just look the situations of the Bihari migrants. In this COVID19 lockdowns just break the curtain from the hidden despairs and exploitation of the migrants form Bihar, the same Bihar Government instea...

Lalu Prasad Yadav: One of the great leader from the margin and for the margins

Image
Lalu Prasad Yadav, is one of the greater examples for success of our democracy, his entire politics was based on to give voice to unheard through the political representation and ensuring social justice. He was staunch supporter of JP, Lalu Prasad was leading figure for the the anti-establishment movement in the Bihar, that was against the caste system, against the then dominant power of congress party, or reaching unreached people of the society through the social justice agenda of the nation.   In 1990, Lalu Prasad Yadav became the Chief Minister of Bihar and this was a big shift in the politics of Bihar. Lalu Yadav tried to implement the idea of social justice for the marginalized sections of society, which is promised in our constitution and he also ensured the participation of the weaker sections of society in the democratic process/ representation.  He is one of the leaders in India who never collaborated with communal forces. Like Dr. B. R Ambedkar rightly said “ ...
